Community Foundation awards more than $95K in grants

ALPENA — The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of community grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties. The CFNEM Board of Trustees recently approved 50 new grants totaling $95,222. Of that amount, $72,622 was awarded in Community Impact Grants, and $22,600 was awarded in grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC).

New Community Impact Grants are:

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $4,000 toward the Alcona Backpack program;

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $3,175 toward the Detroit Arts & Culture Field Trip project;

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $1,000 toward the Weight Room Equipment project;

¯ Curtis Township Library — $2,000 toward the 2020 Heritage Skills Workshop Series;

¯ Inspiration Alcona — $3,000 for the 4th Annual 2021 Alcona Small Farm Conference;

¯ Mikado Township — $1,500 for the Bingo Machine Upgrade project;

¯ Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District (AMA ESD) — $2,500 toward the Reagage (Reading + Engagement) project;

¯ AMA ESD — $4,000 toward the AMA GSC Baby Connect project;

¯ Hubbard Lake Bible Church — $3,000 for the Sunrise Food Pantry — Feeding the Hungry project;

¯ Huron Humane Society — $2,000 for the Healing Place project;

¯ Michigan Works! Northeast Michigan Consortium — $5,000 for the MiCareerQuest NE 2020 project;

¯ Park Family Foundation — $2,172 for the Ready, Set, SNAP Inclusion project;

¯ Park Family Foundation — $1,500 for the Special Needs Prom — A Night to Remember project;

¯ Thunder Bay Arts Council — $1,000 for the Nina Fine Concert;

¯ United Way of Northeast Michigan — $2,172 for the Gear Up project;

¯ United Church of Christ — $750 for the Saturday Night Music in the Park project;

¯ Hillman Community Schools — $3,000 for the Hillman Elementary Beginning Band Percussion Purchase;

¯ Hillman United Methodist Church — $1,000 for the Back to School Bash project;

¯ Alpena Youth Sailing Club — $1,000 for the Boat Purchase project;

¯ Posen Consolidated Schools — $2,500 for the ELA Computers project;

¯ Rogers City Area Schools — $3,172 for the FIRST Robotics Competition 2020 Season;

¯ City of Rogers City — $4,970 for the “Loud and Clear” project;

¯ Huron Pines Resource Conservation & Development Council — $3,000 for the Emily Min Hunt Access project;

¯ Friends of the Alpena Farmer’s Market — $1,011 for the “Ban the Bag” project;

¯ Boys and Girls Club of Alpena — $2,500 for the Triple Play (Mind, Body, Soul) program;

¯ NEMCSA — $1,000 for the School Success Basic Needs Pantry project;

¯ Alpena Civic Theatre — $2,500 for the Stage Lighting Control and Dimmer Replacement project;

¯ Alpena County Plaza Pool — $4,000 for the Ready, Set, Swim project;

¯ Alpena Gymnastics — $1,000 for the Ninja Obstacle Course Equipment;

¯ Alpena Public Schools — $1,200 for the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village Trip;

¯ Alpena Public Schools — $500 for the “A Step Back in Time at Mackinac Island” project;

¯ Alpena Street Performers — $1,000 for the Downtown Street Performer Series;

¯ Catholic Central Athletic Association — $500 for the Bingo Enhancement project.

Grants for this Community Impact Grant cycle come from the Community Endowment Fund, as well as several other unrestricted and designated endowment funds, including Alcona General Fund, Alcona Healthcare Initiative Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Huron Shores Health Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund for Presque Isle Youth, CFNEM Spendable Tobacco Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle County Fund, Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Pfeiffenberger Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, Weinkauf Fund, and the Wilson Family Fund.

Also approved were grants recommended by the Youth Advisory Councils (YAC) of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties. The 17 grants totaling $22,600 were awarded and include:

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $1,400 for the Close Up program;

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $1,770 for the Genius Hour in STEM program;

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $700 for the Photography Genius Hour project;

¯ Alpena Public Schools — $843 for the “A Step Back in Time at Mackinac Island” project;

¯ Alpena Public Schools — $1,350 for the Maker Lab program;

¯ Alpena Youth Sailing Club, Inc. — $1,826 to purchase sailboats;

¯ AMA ESD — $1,207 for the Reagage (Reading + Engagement) project;

¯ Atlanta Community Schools — $2,500 for the Robotics Supply Stock project;

¯ Boys and Girls Club of Alpena — $1,550 for the Empowering Our Youth Volunteers program;

¯ Case Township — $1,250 for the Summer Youth program 2020;

¯ Civil Air Patrol Thunder Bay Squadron — $343 for the Recruitment is in the Air program;

¯ District Health Dept. #4 — $1,450 for Girls on the Run Sunrise Side;

¯ Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium — $1,500 for MiCareerQuest Northeast 2020;

¯ Rogers City Community Theatre Inc. — $455 for the “And All That Jazz” program;

¯ Rogers City Public Schools — $456 for the Rogers City Travel Abroad Club;

¯ Rogers City Public Schools — $1,500 for the RCHS Industrial Technology program Renovation;

¯ Thunder Bay Transportation Authority — $2,500 for the Youth Summer Transportation program.

The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grant. The deadline to apply is July 1, and grants will be awarded to projects that support issues important to the women of Northeast Michigan. Applications are available at cfnem.org.
